Luke’s passion for music began at an early age. He joined his first band at 17 and went on to play keyboards, sing, and write songs in various local bands over the coming years, with a short spell with Bruce Foxton of The Jam fame working as producer.
In the early 1990s he teamed up with singer/guitarist Du Kane to create a one-off Hendrix sampled house track which was eventually passed to Alan Douglas by Eric Clapton. The Beautiful People album followed and was released in Europe in 1993 on the Castle Communications Essential label with live drums recorded by Robin Goodridge (later of Bush fame), and remixes by both Killing Joke bassist and producer Youth (Pink Floyd, Verve, U2) and ‘80s hitmakers, PM Dawn. After securing an American deal with Continuum records, Beautiful People made number #1 and number #3 in the US dance chart with “If 60’s Was 90’s,” and “Rilly Groovy” (the former with accompanied video featuring Jimi’s son James Sunquist, aka Jimi Hendrix Jnr.).
Following the Beautiful People, Luke played rhythm guitar and sang in the band Sun Machine. He owned and managed his own recording studio, Earth Terminal, from 1992 to 2000, where he focused on production work for record companies such as Universal, EMI, as well as a number of independent labels.
Working on his solo album with long time collaborator, Dave Goodes “Moment of Clarity” re-ignited Luke’s passion for lyric writing and storytelling through music. Having not written and recorded for many years, the album started slowly without a style or concept. The songs gradually developed into a collection of memories, observations and stories and, together with David’s musical input, the album took shape and was released in September 2021.
Luke is now planning his next album.
